Many diesel owners in Yuma, AZ believe that since they have a fuel system that already has a fuel filter from their manufacturer and have never had problems with their fuel system before, that they don't need to upgrade to a FASS Fuel System. Many trucks have climbed in mileage without a FASS fuel system for sure. So why should you upgrade to something you "don't need"?
Stock Ford, Dodge, and Chevy Filtration Issues
Your stock fuel system already has a filter in it. For example, Ford Powerstroke fuel filter filters down to 4 micron, Dodge Ram Cummins filters down to 3 micron, and Chevy Duramax filters down to 2 micron. These are great ratings. They are not absolute ratings however. These ratings by these manufacturers are best case scenario ratings.
Meaning there will be debris particles that still flow through the filters. PSI ratings for these pumps used on the low side are also inconsistent, causing air to be reintroduced into the system causing wear to your high pressure fuel pump and injectors. Have you ever paid to get those repaired here in Yuma? Not a fun bill to have.
FASS has an absolute fuel filter rating of 2 microns, meaning that is the norm, not best case scenario. With a system with as tight of tolerances as a fuel system, the less debris, the better. It also has a low pressure PSI built for your truck specifically, making sure your high pressure pump doesn't work harder than it should.
The Duramax Warning (2001-2016)
Most trucks have 2 fuel pumps in their system. A low pressure pump responsible for pulling diesel from your tank and sending it up to the high pressure pump. The high pressure pump supplies high pressure fuel to your injectors that inject that fuel into your cylinders.
The FASS fuel system replaces your low pressure pump and filters with their 1,000,000 mile warranty pump and their 2 inline filters that filter debris, and water and air. However, for all you that own a Duramax from 2001-2016, YOU DO NOT HAVE A LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP! This means your high pressure fuel pump is pulling and pushing fuel which causes significantly more wear on your high pressure pump and your injectors than normal. A FASS Fuel pump is absolutely needed for any Chevy or GMC Duramax from 2001-2016. This isn't a "I haven't had an issue yet so it's fine" this is an issue you WILL HAVE if you do not install a FASS.
So if you don't install a FASS preventatively, you can replace your high pressure pump in the best case scenario, or replace your whole fuel system when your CP3 or CP4 blows up and takes out your entire fuel system and still needs to put a FASS on it after that big bill.
Benefits for Stock Daily Drivers
Now, for everyone else who does have a stock lift pump already. Your system isn't filtering out debris or separating water and air or supplying consistent fuel pressure to your high pressure pump as well as with a FASS. FASS advertises 3x longer fuel system life with a FASS vs stock and backs up that claim with a 1,000,000 mile warranty.
If your truck is stock and you do install a FASS, cleaner fuel means better combustion efficiency which means better fuel economy, essentially paying for itself, let alone the money you save not replacing injectors or a high pressure fuel pump.
FASS for High Horsepower Builds
For everyone that does have more power than stock. Whenever or however you turn up the power on your truck, your truck still needs 3 things: Compression, Air, and Fuel. More power usually means more fuel. If you turn up the power and don't upgrade your stock fuel system, your stock fuel system is working harder overall to supply enough fuel to make that bigger power output.
That in turn causes more wear prematurely and will cause issues down the line if not addressed. FASS makes their pumps specific to your truck AND its power output. A FASS system for a 2015 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke that makes 400 HP is different from a FASS system for a 2015 Ford 6.7L that makes 700 HP.
Obviously the FASS system for the 700 HP Powerstroke (in this example) will need to supply more fuel. FASS knows this and already has the answer. If you're turning up the power, do it reliably by building on a solid foundation like a FASS Fuel System.
